THE NSWOOA WILL PRESENT a workshop and mini-field day titled “How to Do It and How to Pay For It” on November 10 beginning at 9:30 am. In the morning, speakers will talk about the new Category 7 program and provide practical guidance on how to apply for this funding. In the afternoon, the group will visit the woodlot of Charlie Baird, who won the 1996 Provincial Woodlot Owner of the Year Award, for demonstrations of selection harvesting, pre-commercial thinning, and management of a sugarwoods. This program will be free, but a voluntary donation is asked to cover the cost of a meal. Please be prepared for rain or other harsh weather, and wear your hunter orange just in case. The program will be held in the Cobequid District Fire Hall at 3830 Route 236, just outside of Old Barns. To get there, take Exit 14 off Highway 102 and turn west (opposite direction from Truro) onto Route 236 at the foot of the off ramp. The Fire Hall is about 2k west of the overpass.
This blog serves as an archive for past news and information from the Nova Scotia Woodlot Owners and Operators Association. We are the oldest group of woodlot owners in the province, and the leading advocates for environmentally centered, socially responsible, economically balanced forestry. The association has grown substantially in recent years, and our new website can be viewed at nswooa.ca. It's the best place to learn more about sustainable management of the Acadian Forests of Nova Scotia.
